School Programs Intern

SUMMARY: 

Under the general direction of the School Programs Coordinator, the school programs intern supports the work of the Brooks Museum’s school programs; assists in program evaluation of the Art Builds Creativity multi-visit program; maintains art studio space; assists teaching artists in program delivery; and serves as a member of the dynamic Education Department team. This internship is for the Fall Semester and requires 10-15 hours a week (working primarily Wednesday-Friday). The internship is not paid but we will work with the intern’s university to ensure that college credit is given. 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Acquires relevant knowledge of Memphis Brooks Museum of Art’s collections and special exhibitions. 
  2. Assists with program evaluation of the Art Builds Creativity Program. Organizes and maintains records of collected surveys. Responsible for timely data entry of evaluation. 
  3. Assists Teaching Artists in studio and gallery. 
  4. Organizes and prepares the studio for each lesson. 
  5. Creates examples/demo pieces for art activities
  6. Tracks attendance of Art Builds Creativity program 
  7. Additional tasks as assigned

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Sophomore or above at the undergraduate level, or graduate student at an accredited university.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within and beyond the institution.  
  • Excellent organizational skills, follow-through, and attention to detail, including ability to work on multiple programs and deadlines simultaneously. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to tailor speech and writing to a variety of audiences and purposes.
  • Comfortable working with elementary children.
  • Command of Google Suite strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of regional and local communities and audiences helpful. 
  • Demonstrable ability to anticipate and problem-solve independently.
  • High degree of professionalism and a team spirit.
  • Ability to be firm and flexible as the situation requires.
  • Goal-oriented/solution-focused.
