My Brooks internship began when I was an international graduate student from Iran attending the Memphis College of Art in painting. I had been searching for an opportunity that would be connected to the art world in Memphis and also help me to learn new skills. I was very interested in the Brooks Museum because I felt it could be an environment that introduces me to the importance of public relations. During my time there (summer 2012) I learned about the diversity of museum visitors and the museum staff as well. I thought the Brooks was a great fit, providing a unique and friendly atmosphere with access to really wonderful exhibitions and programs for different range of people.

The Brooks internship gave me the opportunity to experience a lot of requirements of a museum. I began by surveying visitors about their impressions of the museum, and a little later I was assigned to taking photographs of special events at the museum, because of my previous experience and background in photography.

My time at the Brooks Museum of Art taught me a lot about interacting with the public. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the wonderful staff there, and for the opportunity to meet so many interesting people. I’m positive my experience there helped me grow as a person and as an artist.
