Faces and Spaces: Narrative Painting inspired by the style of Harmonia Rosales

This inaugural exhibition for Inspired Aging features narrative paintings inspired by the recent exhibition 'Harmonia Rosales’ Master Narrative.' These works are created by Memphians aged 55 and better who took part in the first Inspired Aging course at Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.

Inspired Aging is a free multi-session art studio courses for adults 55+. These courses are designed to offer lifelong learning and social connection through the arts. Throughout the span of eight weeks, Inspired Aging participants focused their time on creating one narrative painting with local Memphis artist and educator Sarah Nowlin. Paintings from this series are inspired by the work of Harmonia Rosales’ Master Narrative exhibition at the Brooks.

Local Artists: Perry Bonan, Janice Bratcher, Sandra Gallagher, Richard Givhan, Peggy Jenkins, Jonita Johnson, Vicki Kinder, Brenda Landman, Mary Ann McCraw, William McCulley, Janice Robinson

Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?

Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?

The American art theorist Linda Nochlin (1931-2017) posed this question as the title of a pioneering article in 1971. This essay was considered one of the first major works of Feminist art history, it has become a set text for those who study art internationally, and it is influential in many other fields.
