Summary
The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art seeks a Docent Coordinator to serve as a liaison between the museum’s volunteer docents, Education Department staff, Security staff, and other museum departments. Under the general direction of the Director of Education and Interpretation, s/he is responsible for volunteer docent recruitment; coordinating the training of new docents and monthly training for active docents; evaluation of docent performance and providing feedback/coaching; regular communications with docent team; maintaining docent records; and serving as a member of the dynamic education department team. Weekend and evening work required.
Skills/Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art History, Education, or Non-Profit Management preferred.
• A minimum of three years’ experience working with volunteers preferred.
• Demonstrable experience teaching or training preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to tailor speech and writing to a variety of audiences and purposes.
• Excellent organizational skills, follow-through, and attention to detail, including ability to work on multiple programs and deadlines simultaneously.
• Ability to work productively in an ever-changing environment with frequent interruptions.
• A commitment to ensure that diversity, equity, access, and inclusion are primary considerations across all work.
• Demonstrable ability to anticipate and problem-solve independently.
• High degree of professionalism and team spirit.
• Ability to be firm and flexible as the situation requires.
• Goal-oriented and solution-focused.Knowledge of regional and local communities and audiences helpful.
Salary: Up to $18 an hour
