    Sketch from a nude model in the galleries. All ranges of drawing experience are welcome, including visitors who are picking up a sketchbook for the first time.

    Sketchers can bring their own drawing materials or use the paper and pencils provided.  Pencils, colored pencils, and crayons can be used, as well as sketchbooks or drawing pads 18x24” or smaller. Please no pens, markers, charcoal, or pastels.

    Note: Please be advised, this event is suggested for ages 18+.

  • Artist Talk: Federico Uribe

    Colombian-born, Miami-based artist Federico Uribe will talk about the motivations and meaning of his work in the Dorothy K. Hohenberg Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29.

    Uribe, a creator of magical creatures and playful installations, is making a large-scale site-specific environment for the latest iteration of Rotunda Projects, a series that has featured work by Yinka Shonibare, Nnenna Okore, and, most recently, Lisa Hoke. Rotunda Projects: Federico Uribe will be on view through August 11, 2019.

    The Day of the Dead, known as “Día de los Muertos” in Spanish, is celebrated in Mexico November 1 and 2. On this Mexican holiday, everyone remembers and honors their deceased loved ones through decorated altars, called “ofrendas” in their homes to welcome the spirits. This day is to celebrate life. It is a traditional celebration where people bring the memories of their love ones alive and the traditions of their ancestors.Don’t miss your chance to get some great project ideas for your classroom.

    Join us for the free Homeschool Day in September and learn about The Science of Sight.

    During our Homeschool Days, families can choose from a variety of activities: scavenger hunts, self-guided tours, a drop-in art-making activity, and docent-led tours at 10:30 a.m. & 11:15 a.m.

    No reservations required.


    STE(A)M curricula at the Brooks is anchored in visual art, while emphasizing science and mathematics as a way to foster 21st century skills of communication, critical thinking, authentic problem solving, creativity, and innovation. STE(A)M programs are quickly becoming popular in the field of education because they provide students with the opportunity to “see” the big picture, ALL of its elements, and how they work together as a whole!

  • Artist Talk: Julien de Casabianca – From Art Heists to Street Art: Hidden Histories Revealed in the Most Unlikely of Places

    French artist, Julien de Casabianca – dubbed the Robin Hood of Street Art – takes portraits of characters plucked from classical paintings found on the walls of museums and pastes them onto public buildings to create his unique style of art.

    His lecture gives a humorous and poignant insight into what drives him to create his street art, a process which began with an unlikely discovery in his childhood home and continues today with portraits from museums all around the world.
