For this Café Conversation, Reframing Portraiture in Museum Collections, Dr. Cookie Woolner, Assistant Professor in the Department of History at the University of Memphis, will interrogate the history of portraiture in museum collections, starting with Cecilia Beaux’s portrait of our founder, Bessie Vance Brooks, which is on view in the American Gallery. Via tour and conversation, Woolner will lead participants in an engaging discussion about how we view identity and otherness in portraiture throughout history, and about what modern portraiture say about humankind today.
Free. No reservations required.
