Curated by Kathy
Dumlao, Director of Education and Interpretation
Blending elements from her Puerto Rican culture and reverent images of family,
Maritza Davila’s richly textured images represent the people, memories, and
experiences that have shaped her identity. Symbolic of the passage from one
phase of life to another, her imagery often includes doors, arches, or windows.
The exhibition will feature an altar dedicated to her parents and her daughter.
Maritza Davila is Professor of Fine Arts at the Memphis College of Art where
she has taught drawing and printmaking since 1982.
