Community Mural Program

The murals are a lasting work of art for the community and a source of pride and accomplishment for the young people who create it.

Following a successful pilot project at the Orange Mound Community Center in the spring of 2007, the Brooks’ Education department is pleased to add the Community Mural Program to its list of arts education offerings. Future projects will include students from a variety of organizations in the Memphis area who will work with a teaching artist to design and paint a mural at the partner organization’s site. Using house paints, the murals can be painted either indoors or out, and each completed mural will be celebrated with a community reception to showcase the creativity and hard work of the participants. The finished product is a lasting work of art for the community and a source of pride and accomplishment for the young people who create them. Funded by the Highland Area Renewal Corporation and an Arts Build Communities grant, which is a program funded by the Tennessee General Assembly and administered in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission and ArtsMemphis.
