Each month, the Brooks presents a variety of art talks, workshops, guided tours and films. Public lectures, workshops and tours cover topics ranging from special exhibitions and the permanent collection to current events and critical debates on art.

This award-winning film follows a homeless veteran who survived the trauma of WWII internment camps, Hiroshima, and 9/11 by creating art. Screened in conjunction with the Brooks’ art therapy project Hands of Honor. A tour of the veterans exhibition will precede the film at 6 pm.

Part One begins in 1956 as Che and a band of exiles led by Fidel Castro reach the Cuban shore from Mexico to topple the regime of dictator Batista.

Che: Part Two (The Guerilla)
Part Two focuses on the revolutionary’s later actions in Africa and South America, eventually being captured and killed by rangers in Bolivia, backed by the CIA.

Throughout history, artists have sought to break with tradition in order to create something original. Just as often, their attempts have been met with shock or contempt. This tense relationship between artist and audience is not limited to the field of visual art, but also exists in film, music, and literature. This thought-provoking series explores the shifting attitudes towards new art, and the motives behind the viewer’s visceral reaction.
