06/20/2018, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
Memphis Brooks Museum of Art | Free. map
African textile artists have always used the continent’s print traditions to respond to political, economic and social issues.
This Café Conversation, with Dr. Earnestine Jenkins, Professor of Art History-Visual Culture Studies at the University of Memphis, will guide us through the historical events and encounters that have influenced—and continue to influence— global fashion culture.
Free. No reservations are required.
Café Conversations are held the third Wednesday of every month and will coincide with a tour of a related special exhibition or works from the permanent collection. Led by local Memphians, the series will encourage visitors to contemplate real life issues by drawing comparisons to themes in art.
